Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-3

Tamiya's 1/48 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-3 is available online from Squadron.com

Description

Here is my recently completed 1/48 scale Tamiya Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-3.

Although I have long preferred Hasegawa's 1/48 scale Emil, I must say that I have changed my mind after building both kits side-by-side. The Hasegawa Emil looks a bulbous in the nose area compared to Tamiya's.

The main shortcoming of Tamiya's offering is the cockpit, which is a bit half-hearted compared to the crisp detail of the rest of the kit. I installed the Aires Bf 109 E cockpit, plus an Ultracast seat.

An Ultracast propeller and spinner assembly were used too.

Markings are from an old Cutting Edge decal sheet graciously supplied by Joe from FlightDecs. Thanks Joe!

My Emil was painted using the Testor Aztek airbrush. I used Floquil Flat Clear for this project, thinned with lacquer thinners. I was very pleased with the result.

This model will appear in a forthcoming book from Classic Publications due for release late this year.
