Two Mikes Resin has released a simple replacement for the jet intakes on the Airfix and MPC 1/72 scale Avro Vulcan kit. 

Six parts are supplied in the set. There are two seamless resin intake units, flawlessly cast in white resin.

This will allow fitment of the set without the need to paint the intakes. The seamless units are attached to casting blocks at the aft end of the intakes. As usual, care should be exercised when removing the casting blocks. There are four engine intake faces, also to replace the sub standard original kit parts. These are cast in grey resin, requiring no preparation other than a wash to remove the releasing agent, followed by painting.

The shape of the new intakes is great. Being one piece each, they are totally seamless. The inclusion of detailed engine fan faces is a great touch. The set I received is one of the first produced and did not have instructions. Although there were no instructions, aftermarket sets do not get more straightforward that this. Simply cut the casting blocks from the intakes, paint and glue the engine faces to the aft end of the intakes, then attach each handed intake to the relevant fuselage half. I should also mention that when removing the casting blocks, you will only have to cut through a small amount of resin as there are thin webs attaching the intakes to the blocks. It took me less than two minutes total to remove both casting blocks from the intakes. The intakes include two locating recesses each to assist with proper location of the intakes within each fuselage half. That’s it!

General consensus of fans of V-bombers is that the Airfix Vulcan kit is a really nice kit, although it does have raised panel lines. For those so inclined, it is relatively easy to rescribe with those big flat wings and long straight panel lines; I rescribed mine in a couple of hours.  The result of the finished kit is impressive and imposing, even in 1/72 scale.
