Description

This pylon racer was built in 1934 by Lawrence W. Brown from Montebello, CA., powered by Menasco B6 "Buccaneer" 160 hp (119 kW) engine, and called “Miss Los Angeles”.

In 1934, the Brown B-2 won second place in Thompson Trophy Race, piloted by Roy Minor. Crashed in 1938, restored with bigger wings, soon crashed again, killing pilot Lee Williams.

Its replica is now in Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos.

The Kit

My Karaya 1/72 scale Brown B-2 was built straight from the box. I only replaced the exhaust pipes and windshield, and of course the rigging.

The kit's locating pins on the wings were replaced by the metal rods, after the wings broke off three times.

All in all, it’s a good kit.
