This modest sheet takes a look at the Messerschmitt 262 A-1a.

Two aircraft are featured on this sheet. As well as the expected national and personal marking, the modeller gets a full complement of stencil data. Everything was crisply printed with even the smallest writing being legible. Colour registration was perfect and the carrier film was both thin and minimal.

1. “White <<”, Me 262 A-1a, W. Nr. Unknown, Generalleutnant Adolf Galland, JV 44, München-Riem, late April 1945.

   Galland was wounded in the right knee when flying this aircraft which essentially ended his flying career with the Luftwaffe. A set of 12 R4M rockets were fitted under each wing and the pilot was blessed with an armoured headrest.

   The undersurfaces are believed to be in natural metal with RLM 76 engine pods and ailerons. A combination of RLM 82/RLM 83 make up the top surfaces and the white double chevron completes the effect.

2.  “Green 1”, W. Nr. Unknown, of III. /JG 7, location unknown, April 1945.

   This aircraft was flown by Major Rudi Sinner but is not the usual aircraft we see illustrated. It’s his alternate machine which had the diagonal camouflage stripes painted in the opposite direction. The single period photo does not show the presence of the 21 cm rockets that are seen on his other aircraft.
   The colour scheme is presented as RLM 82/RLM83 on the upper and side surfaces with RLM 76 beneath the wings and fuselage.

   
   

Modeller’s of the Me 262 will enjoy this sheet. The research is always first-class and there are enough markings and stencil data to complete both of the options offered.

Definitely a welcome addition for Luftwaffe fans.
