Roy Sutherland, the owner of Barracuda Studios sure seems to have taken a shine to Tamiya’s new 1/32 scale P-51D kit.

So much so that he has been hard at work breathing his magic upon it and, so far, has produced three mixed media detail sets and a decal sheet to enhance the cockpit as well as a further detail kit to super detail the compressed paper drop tanks that the P-51 carried to further extend its already legendary range.

BR32014 consists of just ten resin parts:

  • A K-14 gun sight and its mount,

  • The radio, its batteries and its wiring harness that sit behind the pilot’s armour plate,

  • A complete throttle quadrant along with two throttle levers, the early and late style with Belden cable mounting.

  • A replacement control column complete from the stick grip at the top to the canvas cover on the bottom.

The instruction sheet is well written with easy to follow instructions and illustrated with excellent quality sharp, clear colour images showing the resin parts in place on the kit parts. The images also show you how to “wire” the battery to the radio, the gun sight and what to add to the throttle handle as well to make it even more detailed.

The resin parts in my sample set are crisply cast and there are no pin holes or mis-casts in any of the parts. A word of caution, and I have repeated in each of the reviews for these sets, the resin used to cast the parts is pretty brittle and you will need to exercise care whist working with it, the written instructions re-enforce this point!

The parts come packed in a clear plastic zip-loc bag with a cardboard header.

Are the parts in the set an improvement over the kit ones? Definitely!

Thanks to Barracuda Studios for the images and information
