Description

Here I present my Albatros D.V from WingnutWings in 1/32 scale

The original Albatros was built in 1917 and used as a fighter. Characteristic was the "cigar-shaped" plywood hull with a length of 7.33 m. The wings had a wingspan of 9.05 m, the starting weight was 915 kg. A Mercedes DIII engine with 170 horsepower was used, allowing a top speed of 180 km / h. It was armed with two Spandau MG08/15 machine guns caliber 7.92 mm

This model has the serial number D2078 and was used by the “Marine-Feldjagdstaffel 1”  in West Flandern / Belgium, the pilot was “Flugmeister der Reserve” Ottomar Hagenmueller.

The Albatros kit is well detailed, but I thought, a 1/32 model should have some extras. There were not many aftermarket parts available, so I build them from scratch.

These were:

valve springs, valve stems, spark plugs, cables, carburetor, ignition switch, machine gun synchronic drive, exhaust pipe, pilot's seat cushion, detailed control column , rudder pedal, fuel and oil tank, fuel and compressed air lines

For the rigging I used “Bobs Buckles” and „Uschi van der Rosten“ Rigging Thread.

The wooden fuselage was realized with „Uschi van der Rosten“ Wood Grain Decals.

The machine guns were updated with the “Master-Model” Spandau 08/15 MG kit.

For the diorama I used three figures from „Kellerkind Miniatures”
