Description

Here is my Airfix 1/48 scale Westland Lynx AH-7 in the out of the box markings of 671Squadron, 2 (Training) Regiment, Army Air Corps, 2005.

This is one of Airfix's best ever kits with some of the finest surface detail I have seen. The kit went together without much difficulty. Fit was precise and no filler required. Some care was needed in joining the fuselage halves, as there are a lot of internal components to line up.

A little bit of extra detail was added, mainly selt belts - photo etch from the spares box for the pilot's seats, and Tamiya tape for the rear cabin ones. I would like to have replaced the transparent intake guards with something more realistic, but this will wait until I can get some mesh in a suitable size.

Humbrol paints were used throughout, except for the tinted window which is brushed Tamiya clear blue enamel. The painting guide is comprehensive, and helpfully, printed in colour. The black stripes were brush painted, modified slightly from the instructions, which appear to show an erroneous extra stripe in the plan view.

Decals went on very well, with little silvering, though photos of the real aircraft suggest the large squadron badges are a little oversized.

Overall, a very enjoyable build, with plenty of options in the box for markings and armament.

Highly recommended.
