Mig-21BIS Fishbed N

Eduard's 1/48 scale MiG-21bis is available online from Squadron

Description

The Eduard Mig-21 series is well known for its detail and fit and is a huge improvement over all other options available previous to the series produced by Eduard.

The kit comes with many options and includes etched metal parts including coloured cockpit panels and sidewalls.

Eduard quickly followed up the release of the kit series with extra after-market resin detail sets under their Brassin label. These sets include a cockpit set, engine exhaust set, wheel well set, speed brake set, wheel set and various missile sets.

I decided that I wanted to enhance the original kit with extra detail so I purchased the cockpit, engine exhaust, wheel well and wheel sets. These have incredible detail including many resin parts, masks and etched metal parts. The cockpit set is superb and fits very nicely into the kit parts with very little extra work.

The same can be said for the wheel wells although some work is required to integrate the cockpit and nose wheel well together. The engine exhaust detail is excellent but in my opinion it is a total waste of money as the supplied kit detail is sufficient for what can be seen when the kit is fully assembled. The fine detail supplied in the Brassin set is buried deep in the fuselage and requires a torch to see any detail through the afterburner nozzle. The wheel set is quite an improvement over the kit supplied details. Some of the fine etch metal details in these sets require some very close attention as they are so small and I found that I was using my magnifier lamp more often than usual.

The kit went together superbly with no major issues and is finished as an aircraft operated by Finland in the colours of Fighter Squadron 31 (Black Lynx) and the paint used was by Xtracolor.
