Advantages:

Advantages: Extensive and colourful selection of squadrons and aircraft to chose from. Excellent quality as expected from Xtradecals.

Disadvantages:

No stencils provided, although information is provided for separate stencil sheet soon to be released from Xtradecals via Hannants.

Conclusion:

Great quality decals produced to suit the new Revell Tornado. Apparently the new IDS kit contains the LRMTS for the GR.1/A aircraft anyway. Keep any eye out for the stencil sheet to follow.

With the recent release of the Revell 1/48 Tornado, Xtradecals has quickly come to the party to replace the lairy anniversary options supplied in the kit. The two sheets concentrate on the mid 80’s to the mid 90’s operational timeframe when the Tornado was dressed in the two tone wrap around scheme operating from both British and German bases

The markings options for each sheet are:

  2. Panavia Tornado GR.1 - ZD3714/BE 14 Sqn RAFG Bruggen 1995

  3. Panavia Tornado GR.1 - ZA448/ED 15 Sqn RAFG Laarbruch 1984

  4. Panavia Tornado GR.1 - ZA470/FL 617 Sqn RAFG Laarbruch 1984

  5. Panavia Tornado GR.1 - ZA600/CM 17 Sqn RAFG Bruggen 1985

  6. Panavia Tornado GR.1 ZA411/AJ-S 617 Sq RAF Marham 1989. This aircraft belongs to the famous Dambusters Squadron. To celebrate its association with the Squadron, the aircraft codes for ’S for Sugar’ AJ-S is provided in World War 2 era colours in black with red outline.

As to be expected with modern Xtradecal sheets, the decals are super thin and colours are rich and well saturated. These should perform well with your favourite setting solutions. Xtracolor and Xtracylix paint callouts are supplied.

 

 

C o n c l u s i o n

 

These are a very colourful pair of decal sheets that will go with any 1/48 GR.1 Tornado. Definitely recommended. From doing some reading around the inter webs it appears that the Revell kit already contains the LRMTS needed for the GR.1/A airframes so no need to wait for the next version to come out.
