MiG's mighty twin-engined jet was a further development of the MiG-15 concept of the mid-40s, but quite a hot rod when compared with its direct predecessor, the MiG-17.

First flown in 1954, the two Tumanski RD-9 jet engines accelerated the MiG-19 to over 1450 km/h, making it to the first supersonic combat aircraft in the world.

Stability problems led to the development of an all moving tail which solved that problem; something that could not be solved that easy have been cooling problems of the engines, which hampered the MiG-19 through its career.
Besides these issues, the MiG-19 was an important and formidable cold war warrior, outmatching it´s contemporary antagonist on the other side of the iron curtain, the F-100 Super Sabre, in most categories.

The 1960s was the time that the MiG-19 gained its reputation as a potent “Phantom killer” over Vietnam. Not long after that, In the second halve of that decade, the “Farmer” was replaced by the new MiG-21.

The MiG-19 was flown not only in the CCCP but also from the air forces of CSSR, Poland, Rumania or North Vietnam. China and Poland built license version of this MiG construction and it is said that North Korea is using this jet till today.

Trumpeter's MiG-19S builds up fine with no major issues besides one: the bow section seemed a little bit over engineered to me. The modeller has to combine several parts as there are the two fuselage halves, the wheel well, an avionic bay and, of course, the prominent air induct to a compact form, a challenge I completely messed up. But, at last, after some sever sanding and filling work I could recover the intended outline of the bow.

I would recommend attention by joining these parts.

Besides that, Trumpeters MiG-19 was a joy to build. No aftermarket stuff has been used, copper wire of various diameter helped to detail the cockpit and the wheel struts besides that seatbelts made of Tamiya tape have been added.
