Recommendation:

An excellent representation of the Litening targeting pod. Avoids the need to assemble that kit supplied part (if you were even offered one). Most injection molded representations of this targeting pod require careful assembly and seam clean-up to produce a result of this quality. . Recommended.

Background

The AN/AAQ-28(V) LITENING targeting pod is a precision targeting pod system currently operational with a wide variety of combat aircraft. LITENING significantly increases the combat effectiveness of the aircraft during day, night and under-the-weather conditions in the attack of ground and air targets with a variety of standoff weapons (i.e., laser, conventional bombs and GPS-guided weapons).

The pod is equipped with a laser designator for precise delivery of laser-guided munitions. A laser rangefinder provides information for various avionics systems, for example, navigation updates, weapon deliveries and target updates. The targeting pod includes an automatic target tracker to provide fully automatic stabilized target tracking at altitudes, airspeeds and slant ranges consistent with tactical weapon delivery maneuvers.*

FirstLook

This is a straightforward resin set that will allow you to build a detailed targeting pod with a minimum of clean-up and assembly. The AN/AAQ-28 is used by a surprising number of operators worldwide.

Whether you want to hang this from your Venezuelan F-16, Turkish F-4E, or an aircraft operated by the United States, United Kingdom or Australia, this resin set will serve you well provided the kit you’re building includes parts for a weapons pylon to carry the pod.

Eduard’s resin parts appear flawless and well detailed.

The set includes comprehensive assembly and painting instructions and waterslide decals. You have an option of modelling the sensor head stowed for travel or deployed. This is a simple case of rotating the head to suit your purposes.

Recommended.

Thanks to Eduard for the samples and images.
