Eduard Brassin’s 1/72 Spitfire Accessory Sets are available online from Squadron.com

For many, Eduard is a brand synonymous with superb quality; this is certainly the case with the review items, from their packaging and instructions, to the actual components.

The sets reviewed here are designed to complement the best Spitfire Mk.IX kit in “The One True Scale”, which unsurprisingly is made by Eduard as well (Brett took a ‘first look’ at it here on HyperScale); but of course, they will suit other brand kits too, although some adaption may be needed with the exhausts and cowl top.

The sets come in Brassins’s usual robust clear plastic blister pack with sponge cushioning and printed instructions folded within.

I have provided photo images of these in the scrollable image gallery above, but I have chosen to use Eduard’s CAD images and instructional diagrams to illustrate each of the sets below:

• 672110 – Exhaust Stacks Fishtail. These are very nicely detailed with open exhaust mouths, and a drop-in fit replacing the kit parts.

• 672111 – Exhaust Stacks Round. As per 672110 above.

• 672121 – 500lb Bomb Set. A very nicely detailed bomb using a combination of resin, PE and decals for the bomb-markings decals, as well as a very detailed bomb rack.

• 672122 – Drop Tank. Many will welcome this “cigar” drop tank, complete with rack and sway-brace.

• 672123 – Mk.IX Top Cowl Early. This captures the early* style cowl shape and is a drop-in fit replacing the kit part. (*The earliest Mk.IX conversions by Rolls Royce  were different again, retaining some Mk.V panels, and have been captured in a specific CMR kit #175).

• 672124 – Mk.IX Top Cowl Late. This captures the late style cowl shape and is a drop-in fit replacing the kit part.

All of these sets are excellent quality items that, exhausts stacks aside, do more than simply gild the lily that is Eduard’s 1/72 scale Spitfire Mk.IX, by providing useful stores and there mounts, and enabling the subtleties of cowl shape applicable to early and late Mk.IX production to be captured.

The advantage of using Eduard’s products in this case is that the kit and its detail sets have been developed in parallel, assuring a high degree of fit precision; something that is not always the case with aftermarket sets. However, the sets should all be adaptable to other brand Spitfires if required.

I happily recommend all six sets.
