Tamiya's 1/48 Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien is available online from Squadron

Description

The surface detail is fine and restrained and represents the panel lines of the Mirage that I am used to without being overdone and trench like.  The Mirage is constructed using flush countersunk rivets which are quite visible on the full size aircraft in its early bare metal schemes.  Kinetic has done has done a great job with adding the required parts to most of their earlier Mirage IIIO kit.

I chose to finish the kit in the 1970-80s lizard scheme using Xtra Color paint.  The aircraft is finished as A3-102 Daphne in No 77 Squadron colours.  I was at No 77 Sqn when members from No 25 Sqn Perth were on work experience at Williamtown.  Some of the instrument guys from 25 Sqn cut a stencil from a Playboy pin up girl and painted on the nose using a spray can.  Over the years the nose art has been white or yellow and in slightly different position on the nose and sometimes more reclined.

This is a superb kit of the Mirage.  There is very little that I can criticise with the actual kit after building it.

Big kudos to Kinetic for this excellent kit.
