The canopy on Airfix’s 1/24 Typhoon Mk.1b ‘bubbletop’ kit is a focal point of the finished model, and as such deserves careful masking and painting.  This mask set from Radu Brinzan’s RB Productions will help you to achieve this.

Radu uses vinyl for his canopy masks, rather than Kabuki tape that is more frequently seen these days.  Each material has its advantages – I find that vinyl has more flex and stretch than tape, which can be very useful when you are trying to get masks aligned with canopy frames.

Also helping with alignment is the fact that the mask has a ‘hollow’ centre, which you need to fill in with tape or masking fluid once you have positioned the mask to your satisfaction.

The masks are pre-cut and cleanly separated from the surrounding waste vinyl.  This makes them easy to remove from the backing sheet without the risk of stretching or distoration.

The set includes a double-sided instruction sheet that uses text and photos to tell you everything you need to know about applying the masks.  The sheet’s only downside is that it is very small – I found myself squinting to read it.

The set is neatly packaged in a ziplock bag that is large enough for the mask sheet to be removed and returned without any risk of damage.

If like me you are hapless at masking canopies the old-fashioned way with tape and a scalpel, then this mask set is for you.  It is a simple product that will greatly enhance the appearance of your finished model.

Highly Recommended.

Thanks to RB Productions for the review sample.
