The Halberstadt Cl.II was a highly successful escort fighter and infantry support aircraft that entered German service from late July 1917. It was very well regarded for its good visibility, climb rate, maneuverability, stability and ease of internal communication afforded by the close nature of the pilot and gunner. Early production aircraft had the main gun mounted to the left of the engine while late production aircraft had it mounted to the right. Halberstadt Cl.II were initially tasked with escorting traditional two-seat reconnaissance and artillery spotting aircraft, often being assigned to a specialised Schutzstaffel (Protection Squadron) which were renamed Schlachtstaffel (Battle Squadron) following their transition to infantry support from March 1918 until the Armistice.

IPMS(UK) Nationals (Scale Model World) in Telford 10 & 11 November 2018

Wingnut Wings will be attending Scale Model World for the first time and we look forward to meeting those of you who are attending at our trade stand in hall 3.

Also recently announced was our new Avro Lancaster models which are expected to be released late in 2019.

Item No. 32043 -1/32 Avro Lancaster B.Mk.I/III.

Item No. 32044 - 1/32 Avro Lancaster B.Mk.III “Dambusters”

US$ TBC (see below)

More than eight years of research, design and tooling has gone into these models… so far! Features include realistic surface detail with stressed skin effect, overlapping panels and raised rivets. WWII era European theatre radiators & nacelle intakes. WWII era fabric covered elevators. Removable outer wing sections to help with display space.

Test shots will be on display at Scale Model World and, if you’re interested, you can also see some 3D CAD renders and test shot images on our website.

In response to some frequently asked questions from people newly interested in Wingnut Wings; please note that this is entirely 100% a Wingnut Wings model and shares nothing with any computer modelling and/or scanning carried out by Weta Digital etc for Peter Jackson’s Dambusters movie project (which “remains in development”). In any case, wire frame CGI movie models are completely unsuitable for creating scale model kitsets.

Price is still to be confirmed, but we are doing what we can to keep it as low as possible and hope it will only be slightly more than 32801 Felixstowe F.2a & Hansa-Brandenburg W.29 "The Duellists". Interestingly, Bryan Wall (pictured) was the lead Product Designer/3D Modeller for our Avro Lancaster project which he finished modelling well before starting work on the Halberstadt Cl.II mentioned above. He has also since completed another couple of new (WW1) models that we’re not quite ready to reveal just yet.

Thanks to Wingnut Wings for the images and information.
