Here is my Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3, W.Nr. 1268, black 5, 2/JG52, Oblt. Benneman - 1:72 Airfix kit + CMK resin engine set and various others.
This was my last completion for 2020.
The good side of that (and this...) awful year was that I, like most of us, had plenty of free time for modeling and managed to thinned the stash, making room for the new entries...
This is my build of Airfix Bf 109E-4, backdated to E-3 with a Falcon Clear-Vax canopy designed for Tamiya kit - fit wasn`t perfect).
I used a lot of other aftermarket items I have collected during this years and in detail:
-
Airmodel cart with fire extinguisher, power cart, anti-slip mats, slats.
-
Brengun tools box, wheel chocks.
-
CMK resin engine set with added scratch details.
-
Yaho instrument panel.
-
Barracudacast wheels, old molds.
-
Quickboost seat with safety belts.
-
Bronco Models 200 l. fuel drums and hand pump.
-
White Stork Miniatures resin diorama base.
-
Zvezda and Preiser figures, slightly modified.
-
Uschi van der Roosten 'Rig that thing" superfine elastic wire.
-
Spare resin details for cockpit...
-
Paints are acrylics from Tamiya and Gunze
-
Decals from Airfix, Print Scale and Amodel for engine W.Nr
I have never used so many aftermarket items in one build!
Some notes about construction:
Tthe CMK set is not a drop-dead fix, requires lot of surgery and fiddling and to be honest is not very accurate , but is better and quicker than scratchbuilding; my only humble advice if you plan to use it, is to leave the plastic engine exhausts attached to the fuselage, this will give you a good reference point about the engine's position because I realized that mine is a bit too low...
Tamiya and Gunze acrylic paints were airbrushed freehand and very thinned, over some white primer and dark gray preshading.
The JG 52 running boar decals came from a Kagero JG 52 set but the 1:48 ones, so I spare the real one for another build; unfortunately Kagero didn't realize that the boar always run toward the spinner, can you tell when I spotted this? :-) black 5 with white outline was from Print Scale JG 52 sheet, but white was a separate print so I had to align them, having some trouble with adhesion too...
The base from White Stork Miniatures is nice and ready to paint, even if I think the wooden walls were different in reality...
I really enjoyed this build, the Airfix kit is quite a nice one and finally I used some of the airfield accessories I had stashed from long time, it takes just a little extra time but it is worth.
I am not happy with my finish of the vacuum canopy, I need to improve in this because the scale effect is great.
This is what I got from my money, hope you like it!
