16 May, 2016 - Public Days at Shizuoka Hobby Show

  • For the last video from the Shizuoka Hobby Show 2016, I have taken footage of the first Public Day. I have never seen so many people crammed into one space as this event! Just being a part of the shuffling conga line of humanity is an experience in itself. The mix is eclectic too - guys, girls, families, young and old alike. We take a look at the concourse, the visiting JGSDF vehicles, the Flea Market, the model display area and the Trade Hall, all filled to capacity.

12 May, 2016 - Tamiya 1/48 F-14A Tomcat Preview Video

  • Greetings from Sunny Shizuoka! I've spent the day so far at the 2016 Shizuoka Hobby Show, where the biggest news was undoubtedly Tamiya's announcement of a 1/48 scale F-14A Tomcat to be released later this year. I have put together a 3:52 video exploring the early test shot sprues and also a couple of mock-up builds based on these preliminary parts. There will be changes and additions between now and the release date, and we'll keep you informed as information comes to hand. More news from Shizuoka over the coming days.

Just checking in - I arrived in Tokyo last night and will be catching the bullet train to Shizuoka later this morning. From there, I'll be posting news from the Tamiya briefing and on new releases and other news from the show on Thursday and Friday. There will be videos too so stay tuned!

I have added some more detail to my in-box review of Eduard's 1/48 scale Bf 109 G-6 - additional differences between the original and new releases that I have noticed while building the kit. These mainly relate to the rudders, fins and exhausts.

Valiant Wings Pubishing has announced that the next book in their Airframe & Miniature series will be "The de Havilland Mosquito Part 1: Bomber & Photo-reconnaissance". The book is due out in June. More details an images of the cover are available on the Valiant Wings Publishing website.

I have analysed the differences between this kit and the 2014 release in detail, with 50 images of the kit parts, two built 2014 models, reference photos and more. In short, (spoiler alert) they really have fixed it and it is very good!
