Ultracast has released three new 1/48 scale conversion items for early Spitfires.

The first represents the wooden, fixed pitch two-bladed Weybridge propeller. This is designed for the Tamiya kit. As a single part cast perfectly in cream coloured resin, it will be very simple to install.

Next are two replacement seats. Prior to the introduction of the Bakelite seat in March 1940, early Spitfires were fitted with a metal seat. Two styles are offered - with and without Sutton Harness.

Both seats feature beautifully fine deatil, and are cast with the cushioned backrest in place. The casting block is nothing more than four fine strips of resin, which will be quickly cleaned up woth a sharp hobby knife.

Later Bakelite seats were usually seen in their unpainted brown state, but please note that these early metal seats would be painted whatever interior colour was applied to the rest of the cockpit (probably not always RAF Interior Grey Green - but let's not get into that discussion here!).

Do also take care to check your references for any other subtle differences that might be present on the specific early Spitfire you want to build, especially the canopy and windscreen styles. Alternatives for these parts are avaiable from a number of sources including Falcon and Aeroclub.
