      The Focke-Wulf Fw190 is probably my favourite WWII aircraft. Having said that however, I am no “Experten” on the subject. I am fairly confident that there was never a Fw190 D-9 Nachtjager, but I am happy to be corrected. If one did exist, it probably looked nothing like this.
      Being my first “what-if” project, I found the lack of perceived pressure to create a 100% accurate model somewhat refreshing and an even more relaxing experience than usual.
      I much prefer building in 1/32 and 1/24, but in was in the mood for a quick build and had a 1/48 Tamiya Fw 190 D-9 in the stash. Rather than finishing it in standard colours, I decided to make it a little more interesting and tackle it as a Nachtjager.
      The modifications made to the basic kit were as follows:

        -

addition of an Ultracast seat (an absolute must);

        -

styrene radar screen added to the instrument panel;

        -

fuse wire for brake lines;

        -

brass tube and wire for gun barrels and antenna arrays on the wings; and

        -

styrene tube and fuse wire for flame dampers.

      The aircraft was painted in Gunze RLM66, RLM76 and squiggle pattern in RLM 74/75. Decals came from a Dragon Me262 Nachtjager kit and the Tamiya kit decals (which required a fair bit of softner to bed down).
      Now to build one in 1/32 using the Hasegawa kit...
