Consolidated PBY-5 Catalina

Revell-Monogram's 1/48 scale PBY Catalina is available online from Squadron

Description

The PBY Catalina was one of the most famous airplanes of WWII and was also the most produced flying boat.

Several allied countries used it, amongst them the Brazilian Air Force. The Catalinas were delivered in 1943 and began to patrol the coast of south eastern Brazil in the hunt for Italian and German submarines that were attacking Brazilians ships. Two of these Catalinas were the "01" and "02". On October 30, 1943, the "01" attacked the submarine U-170. This Catalina and the submarine both suffered damage from combat.

This is the excellent 1/48 scale PBY-5 model from Monogram.

I chose to finish my model in the colors of the USN, but with Brazilian air force insignia. The first Catalina, was the "01" and was received in three colors: Dark Blue - FS 35045, Intermediate Blue - FS 35164 and Insignia White - FS 37880.
