Korean War Skyraider

This is the very nice 1/72 A-1H Skyraider kit from Hasegawa. 

I decided that I wanted a Korean War era Skyraider so I backdated the Hasegawa kit.  There are some minor differences such as the following; removal of cowl cooling flaps, removal of the kit dorsal antennas except for the small blade antenna aft of the canopy on fuselage, replace pylons with World War II era pylons and bombs, remove the outboard gun on each wing & sand away the leading edge radar warning antennas. 

The other item which is optional is that the armor plating can be removed since this was used later in the Korean war but I decided to keep it on for a later depiction of a Korean War bird.

As you can see, most of these changes are fairly easy and all you really need to do is raid the spares box for World War II era USN bomb equipment and bombs. 

I used the Italeri and Tamiya Corsairs which had a lot of common gear to the Skyraider.

You also need to get some markings, either aftermarkets or you can cobble together spares if you have a good reserve of decals in your spares box. 

I painted the airframe with Tamiya AS-8 Navy Blue USN (AS series of Tamiya paint) and I find it is a little lighter than the more accurate Model Master Gloss Sea Blue. 

This makes  a nice addition to my Korean War era 1/72 Collection.  My next addition will be some F2H Banshees.
