Les Dents De La Guerre
Illustrations and Text by Jean Barbaud

This publication contains 125 caricatures of aircraft covering 100 years of aviation ranging from WW1 Biplanes such as the Airco DH-2 and Nieuport Type 11 through to some of the latest such as the Lockheed Martin F16 and Sukhoi SU-27.  One chapter is dedicated to Helicopters and some experimental aircraft such as the Nord Griffon, Sud-est Grognaud and Grumman X-29 get a mention.

The caricatures are well done and capture the look of each aircraft in a comical view.  Each caricature has a description written in French but the important comical captions are translated into English.  The final chapters are dedicated to the making of the caricatures, focussing mainly on the P-40N.

The final chapter has some caricatures, paintings and illustrations drawn from invited illustrators such as Bill Pressing, Denis Bodart, Oliver Vatine, Manchu, Ray Grinnel, Romain Hugault, Vincent, Bobby Chui and Kei Acedera.  The book is a hard cover book containing 143 pages of colour illustrations.

Overall this is a very nice publication full of humour, unfortunately all of the text except the humorous captions are in French and it would have been nice if both French and English text was provided.

Dezingueurs
By Jean Barbaud and Herve Richez

This hard cover publication is a cartoon based around the air war in the Pacific in the battle for the Pacific Islands.  All aircraft are drawn in cartoon form and well detailed.  The book contains 47 pages of colour cartoons portraying the serious side of war in light humour including some frolicking nurses.

Although the text is all in French the cartoons are drawn well enough that makes text easy to translate.

Once again it would have been nice to have an English translation somewhere in the book.

Thanks to Bamboo Editions for the samples.
