Junkers Ju 87 G-1 Stuka

Eduard's 1/32 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-1 is available online from Squadron

Description

My model depicts a Junkers Ju 87 G-1 of the Versuchsverband für Panzerbekämpfung, flown in the spring of 1943 on the Eastern front.

On this late version of the famous Ju 87 Stuka, most pieces of equipment that were connected firmly to the former reputation of this warplane had been eliminated: Neither could this aircraft carry a bomb load any longer, nor had been the sirens mounted; even the dive brakes were removed.

But the Ju 87G would build up a reputation for their own: equipped with two hard hitting 37mm Flak 18 cannons, this aircraft was one of the most effective tank-killer of the war. Each cannon had a magazine of twelve armour piercing rounds, which proved lethal for any contemporary tank.

On the other hand, flying and dog fighting capabilities of this overaged type have been further deteriorated by the under wing gun pods.

The G-1 was developed for mass production based on the D-3, with the first aircraft rolling off the assembling lines in March 1943. They were hastily sent to the crumbling Russian front, where they immediately established a reputation as fearsome tank killers.

To get something specials for this aging Hasegawa kit, I acquired the excellent resin Junkers Jumo 211 from Verlinden. Eduards “Bg Ed” collection of etched parts added further detail to the interior and the gun pod mountings. The prominent cables of the gun control system have been scratched with copper wire.
I used Gunze acrylics for the painting. Hasegawas decals, although showing a white a little bit too yellow, went on very well.

If you are interested in the building process, please take a look at the JAM forum.
