Marek Rys has authored quite a few books relating to “Luftwaffe ‘46” aircraft.

First published over 9 years ago, the first two books in his series have been out of print for a while now. This publication addresses that situation by combining volumes 1 and 2 and presenting them in a revised A4 hardcover format.

Inside are 176 pages of text, period photographs, and general arrangement drawings. There is also a collection of lavish colour illustrations that put the subject aircraft into some very believable settings.

The projects are arranged in alphabetical order according to those companies that conceived them. Each contains an interesting narrative which explains how the type came about, its proposed development, and the ultimate fate of the subject.

Thus the book is logically broken down into chapters on Arado, Brachem, Blohm and Voss, BMW, Daimler Benz, Dornier, Fieseler, and Focke-Wulf. Rounding out the publication are the products of Gotha, Heinkel, Henschel, Horten, Junkers, Lippisch and Messerschmitt.

The text has been updated from the original editions and there are a few new images as well. It’s a very interesting and informative read. Not only does it explain the thinking behind each design, it does so without getting too technical.

Where available, anticipated dimensional and performance data are included along with the obligatory “scale” drawings.

If you missed out on the first two volumes, then this is the perfect opportunity to pick them up in a single revised edition.
