This sent follows on from the Afghansti Soviet MiG-23 MLD combat veterans set that I reviewed earlier this year, and this set is the first of two decal sets that will cover international users of the MiG-23 ML/MLA/MLD variants.
Included in the International MiG-23 Lightweights are versions of a Bulgarian MLD, a North Korean ML and five very colourful Cuban MiG-23M’s.
The North Korean and Cuban MiG-23s have been involved in numerous flashpoints both during and after the Cold War, while some of the Cuban aircraft depicted in this decal set were utilised by Cuba in the Angolan civil war in the 1980s.
The set covers:
Bulgaria
- MiG-23MLD White 308, 1st Air Squadron, Dobroslavtzy AB,1999
Cuba
-
MiG23ML Red 212, and Red 213 UM 1779 Regimiento, UM 2661 Escuadron, San Antonio de los Banos AB, Havana Provence, Cuba early 2000’s.
-
MiG23ML Red 223, Cuban DAAFAR contingent in Angola,Cuito Cuanavale AB, Angola, early 1980’s and museum aircraft circa 2000.
-
MiG23ML Black 230 UM 1779 Regimiento, UM 2661 Escuadron, San Antonio de los Banos AB, Havana Provence, Cuba early 2000’s.
-
MiG23ML Black 232 UM 1779 Regimiento, UM 2661 Escuadron, San Antonio de los Banos AB, Havana Provence, Cuba late 1990’s.
DPRK (North Korea)
- MiG23ML Red 64, 60th Air Regiment, Pukch’ang-ni Air Base, Pyongang-nando, Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea
The colours and registration are of the high standard that we have come to expect from Linden Hill. Each option comes with three view full colours drawings, with detailed advice on placement and orientation of the decals. The instructions also include full painting descriptions using AKAN colour callouts. For each aircraft, there is a brief service history of the aircraft, and painting instructions including variations that were noted during service life.
This is a very well researched and presented decal sheet, certainly highly recommended. This set certainly provides you with some stunning options.
Highly recommended.
