CMR by Mark 1 Ltd is pleased to announce two new releases to their Spitfire and Vampire kit ranges.

These are being distributed now, so please visit these on-line stockists for any orders you may wish to place. More detailed information about each kit may be viewed by clicking on kit its box number below:

CMR- 236 Supermarine Spitfire F.21 ‘Victor’ & F.23 ‘Valiant’ Prototypes

Designated the Mk.21, the new design Spitfire was powered by a two-stage supercharged Rolls-Royce Griffon 61 engine and featured stronger airframe and newly designed wings. The first true Mk.21 prototype, PP139, first flew in July 1943, while the first production aircraft, LA187, took off on 15 March 1944. These prototypes utilised “high-altitude” wing shape with pointed wing tips. At a later stage of its development the PP139 became the F Mk.23 prototype (which was intended to be a Spitfire Mk.22 incorporating a revised high-speed wing), featuring an extended fin, but the new wing gave less than perfect handling characteristics and so the anticipated order for more than 400 Mk.23s did not materialise.

Colour schemes included in the kit:

  1. Spitfire F Mk.21 ‘Victor’ prototype, PP139, Aeroplane & Armament Experimental Establishment, Boscombe Down, 1944

  2. Spitfire F Mk.23 ‘Valiant’ prototype, PP139, Aeroplane & Armament Experimental Establishment, Boscombe Down, 1945

  3. Spitfire F Mk.21 ‘Valiant’ prototype, LA187, Aeroplane & Armament Experimental Establishment, Boscombe Down, 1945

This full resin kit contains 46 parts, two clear parts, vacu canopy (a spare set is included for modeller's convenience), and a coloured photo-etched fret. The decal sheet also includes a set of stencils.

CMR-DS237  de Havilland Vampire F.2 “Elephant Ears

The Vampire F.2 was an experimental jet fighter powered by the Rolls-Royce Nene RB.41 engine rather than the usual de Havilland Goblin. Designed in 1945 by de Havilland with an aim to improve performance, an original order called for 60 F Mk.II aeroplanes, but eventually only three prototypes were built. It was a twin-boom mid-wing monoplane with a tricycle retractable undercarriage. Due to the two auxiliary intakes on top of the fuselage it was also referred to as the “Vampire – Elephant Ears”. In August 1948 one of the prototypes, TX807, was transferred to Australia to serve as prototype for licence production of the Vampire F.30 for the RAAF.

Colour schemes included in the kit:

  1. Vampire F.2, TX807, Aeroplane & Armament Experimental Establishment, Boscombe Down, 1947

  2. Vampire F.2, A78-2, No.1 AD, RAAF, Laverton Air Base, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 1949

This full resin kit contains 49 parts, vacu canopy (a spare set is included for modeller's convenience), a small mask and a coloured photo-etched fret. The decal sheet also includes a full set of stencils, for which placement on the kit a detailed diagram is included in the highly-detailed instruction leaflet.
