Barracuda Studios seem well known to many HyperScalers, and they have a well-established reputation for accuracy and quality products. As a lead-in to this 'first look', I will quote a post by Barracuda Studio's Roy Sutherland on HyperScale's 'Plane Talking':

"If you can't tell, I love accurate wheels. To me, two things will make an otherwise nice model look toylike: bad wheels and bad prop blades. I have talked with a number of other modelers who share the same feelings. So, if I am crazy, at least I'm in good company."

Each pair of wheels comes paired on an easy to remove casting stub, and packed in a plastic bag with card header. It should come as no surprise then that the products reviewed here are all flawless, with very nice detail levels.

I will take BarracudaCast at their word regarding the improved accuracy they profess their products will provide, and so quote their website in each case.

  • BR72100 Corsair, Hellcat Wheels - Plain Tread: Super detailed resin main-wheels with accurately proportioned 8 slot cast hub. Internal hub detail is visible through the slots! Features un-treaded tires as commonly seen fitted to some F6Fs and F4Us during WWII. A simple upgrade for all Corsair and Hellcat kits.

  • BR72101 Corsair, Hellcat Wheels - Diamond Tread: Super detailed resin main-wheels with accurately proportioned 8 slot cast hub. Internal hub detail is visible through the slots! Features diamond tread tires as fitted to many F6Fs and F4Us in WWII and after. A simple upgrade for all Corsair and Hellcat kits.

  • BR72102 Corsair, Hellcat Wheels - Postwar Tread: Super detailed resin main-wheels with accurately proportioned 8 slot cast hub. Internal hub detail is visible through the slots! Features the common postwar ribbed/diamond treaded tires as fitted to many F4U-4, F4U-5, F4U-7 and AU-1s. A simple upgrade for all Hellcat and late model Corsair kits.

  • BR72103 Corsair, Hellcat Wheels - Stamped Hub: Super detailed resin wheels with the late production stamped wheel hub and ribbed tires as fitted to late model F6F, F4U, Warbirds, and Air Racers. A simple upgrade for all Corsair and Hellcat kits.

  • BR72136 Typhoon, Tempest Series 1 Wheels: The first ever accurate Typhoon style main-wheels, created from careful measurements of surviving wheels and study of period photos. Super detailed, accurate resin 5-slot wheels fitted to most Hawker Typhoons and Series 1 Tempest Mk V's. Designed to fit all kits.

  • BR72137 Firefly I, Barracuda Early Wheels: The first ever accurate Firefly/Barracuda main-wheels, created from careful measurements of surviving wheels and study of period photos. Super detailed resin 5-slot wheels fitted to wartime Fairey Firefly Mk Is and wartime Fairey Barracudas. Greatly improves the Frog and Special Hobby kits of both subjects.
