Linden Hill Decals are well known for their extensive line of Russian aircraft decals in all of the major scales.

Their latest 1:72 scale release covers some of the big bomb trucks from the VVS. On this sheet the Blackjack, Backfire, Bear and the smaller Fullback are supplied in the anniversary markings. These markings were worn to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the VVS at Zhukovsy airfield on the August 12, 2012.

There’s not much to say about these decals other than spectacular and not just because of the quality of the decals but of the size of the model that they will appear. The colours saturation is just right and there appears to be no opacity issues. The art work is pin sharp and in registers which is great to see as some of the shield art found on the noses of the aircraft is not at simple end of the spectrum.

A choice of three aircraft is available for each of the big bombers and a single scheme for the Su-34. A variety of Cyrillic text is provided for each of the aircraft as they were individually named for the ceremony. The newly mandated  tri-colour Russian star is also included for use except the SU-34. AKAH (Akan) paints are used for the colour call outs and from reading on the web, their acrylic lacquer paints are a very close match Russian military colours.

Russian aviation has a rich history and these bombers display it well. Many of the Cyrillic names adorned by the aircraft are named after famous Russian military and civilian nobility and geographic locations. For example, the Tu-95MS ‘Red 21’ is named after the town of Samara where the famous writer Alexey Tolstoy was born and ‘Red 10’ is named after Oleg Antonov’s home town of Saratov.

Conclusion

Put simply the quality of Linden Hill Decals cannot be faulted and nor can the research that goes into their subjects. Linden Hill is passionate about the subjects that they produce and this product shows. If you have any of these models in your collection, particularly the larger bombers, they will look spectacular with these colourful and exceptionally well produced decals.
