Airfix's 1/72 Folland Gnat will be available online from Squadron.com

The Gnat is an astonishing small jet fighter, being outlined in a time when combat plane design tended to real big and heavy construction.

The Royal Air Force had initially rejected Follands offer of a tiny and lightweight fighter aircraft, but foreign nations as Finland and India ordered that plane in major numbers. India in special had interest in that type 175 Gnat where bought and a license version called “Ajeet” developed, which was produced by Hindustan Aircraft Ltd.

In the early 1960s, the RAF had to replace their aging DeHavillland Vampire trainer and opted for a two seat version of the Folland Gnat. Being well suited for that task, the Gnat trainer should be used until replacement by the BAE Hawk in the second half of the 70s.

Airfix new tool Gnat is a pure pleasure to build. I did use a Pavla resin cockpit, but, honestly, that would have been not necessary anyway, I scratched the seatbelts with Tamiya masking tape.

The kit parts show adequate level of detail and a clever layout, decals of the opulent decal sheet are of best quality.
I can recommend that kit for everyone who is looking for a trouble free, fast and enjoyable build.
