This is the P-38H-5-LO Lightning Serial Nr. 42-66752 "White 197"

The original plane was flown by Capt. Daniel T. Roberts und  2nd Lt. Dale L. Badgett. (5th Air Force, 475th Fighter Group, 433rd Fighter Squadron, Papua, New Guinea.

The basic model is the Hasegawa P-38 F/G/H Lightning  in 1/48, updated with several  detail-sets:

• Aero Master Decals  48382

• Eduard Photo Etched Set 49224

• Aires Cockpit Set 4567

• Verlinden Detail Set 892

• Allison  V-1710 Engine CMK 4032   

• Paragon Flaps 4832

• Paragon Gun Bay  4833

• Quickboost  Gun Barrels 48361

• Quickboost  Supercharger 48467

• True Details Wheel  48007

From the Verlinden set I used only a few parts, the engine is the Allison V-1710 von CMK
with scratch built engine mounts, coolant container,  oiltank, oil coolers and exhausts.

Extensive cut outs were necessary to mount the Aires cockpit (constructed for the Academy model) and the Paragon gun bay.

The wings needed cut outs for the Paragon Fowler flaps, which are mounted in half retracted position.

For the diorama I used the Verlinden Perforated Steel Plates mounted on a  wooden base, sand,  palm trees from Pegasus Hobbies and the well detailled Hasegawa “Follow Me” Jeep.
