Description

This is my Academy HMS Warspite 1/350 with Pontos upgrade.

The Grand Old Lady was launched in 1913, refitted several times and received damage during the course of WW2. She ended up, minus 1 turret, bombarding the coast of Normandy on and after D Day. Her final days were sad, as, on the way to the wreckers yard, broke her tow and was beached on the Cornish coast.

The Academy kit is a very good kit in itself but offers great opportunities for adding detail. There is, on the current market, no greater detail than that offered by Pontos -sheets of brass, uncountable brass barrels and a wooden deck.
Although daunting to look at in the box, the instructions are more than adequate to see all but the least experienced through the steps to a satisfactory finish.

The multi barrelled pompoms are kits in themselves with tiny brass barrels

For me a long build (about 3 months and is at scalemodellingnow) but very satisfying.

I weathered the whole ship including below the waterline. I have seen heavily weathered ships above the waterline, beautifully done, but looking in my opinion too pristine below where, after all, it is attacked by the sea.
