Background

The American Paveway series of laser-guided bomb is based on the Mk 84 general-purpose bomb, but with laser seeker and wings for guidance. Introduced into service c. 1976, they are used by the USAF, US Navy, US Marine Corps, RAAF and various NATO air forces.

The GBU-10 has been built in more than a half-dozen variants with different wing and fuse combinations. Its weight depends on the specific configuration, ranging from 2,055 lb (934 kg) to 2,103 lb (956 kg).

FirstLook

Eduard Brassin offers a growing range of aftermarket guided bombs, amongst the latest of which is the pair of CBU-10 Paveway II’s reviewed here.

The two bombs come attractively packaged in a blister pack with sponge cushioning. Very clear instructions are included, with colour call-outs cross-referenced to the Gunze Aqueous and Mr Color paint ranges. The instructions details the paint finish applied to this weapon and a small sheet of decals provides for the bomb markings. (The decals were missing from my sample – A first in my experience with the brand.) A PDF copy of the instructions is downloadable from Eduard’s website.

The quality of casting is excellent, with the pour sub attached to the tail of the bomb and its fins by thin wafers. There is a choice of seeker heads with and without protective cover, and each bomb has four separate forward fns to attach.

Painted and decaled, these Paveways should be an excellent addition to any suitable model, and are sure to be a vast improvement over any injected kit items.

Conclusion

This pair of GBU-10 Paveway II’s by Brassin is very nicely rendered. They offer a real opportunity to improve and refine the appearance of numerous subjects. I definitely recommended them.
