Advantages:

Superb quality.

Disadvantages:

The labelling is unclear as to which Tamiya F-16 kit they are intended for – Tamiya’s re-box of Italeri’s kit, or their own new tool F-16C Block 50 kit.

Recommendation:

These excellent quality airbrakes should enhance the new tool Tamiya F-16C Block 50 kits, but are not intended for Tamiya’s re-boxed issues of Italeri’s F-16. I am happy to recommend them, as they appear to be excellent in all respects.

FirstLook

For many Eduard is a brand name synonymous with superb quality, and this is certainly the case with the items reviewed here, from the packaging and instructions, to the actual components. The parts come packed in a clear blister pack with foam cushioning and include printed instructions. The instructions are also downloadable in as a PDF from Eduard’s website, to view these please click here.

This set provides replacement airbrakes for Tamiya’s 1/72 F-16 kit; but Eduard does not advise which one on the packaging or in the instructions. This matters, because Tamiya has previously re-boxed Italeri’s F-16 as well as recently releasing a superb new tool F-16C Block 50 (reviewed here on HyperScale by Brett Green in March 2014). The new tool kit has since been released in a second boxing with weapons included.

I can advise that these airbrake parts are intended for the new tool kit, but they should really say, or quote box numbers. The clue lies in a note on the webpage for this item, where there is a note mentioning the product can also be found in another package; this being a Big Sin set (SIN67205), which is identified on its own webpage as being for Tamiya’s F-16C Block 50 kit.

Such “detective work” should not be required, as I think the specific kit they are intended for sold be advised on the packaging.

The airbrakes are beautifully cast, have easily removable pouring-blocks; and as they are handed, include L & R cast into each moulding block to help with correct fitment. A picture is worth a thousand words, and this adage certainly applies to this “first look”. Eduard’s CAD illustration, my images of the actual parts, and the downloadable instructions should provide readers with almost all they need to about the contents.

Conclusion

These excellent quality airbrakes should enhance the new tool Tamiya F-16C Block 50 kits, but are not intended for Tamiya’s re-boxed issues of Italeri’s F-16. I really feel that Eduard should clearly label the kit number as well as brand where the same company has boxed more than one distinct tooling.

However, I am happy to recommend them, as they appear to be excellent in all respects.

Thanks to Eduard for the samples and images.
