A number of years ago Brett Green wrote a book called Stormbird Colors (Eagle Editions, 2002, ISBN: 9780966070699) and there was a facinating 262 photo that led me to try to do a model of this aircraft.

The kit is the Tamiya 1/48 Me 262 with numerous modifications and details added. The camouflage is interesting, were the series of dots applied by a worker who was told to spray some RLM 81 mottles on the a/c and just walked down the fuselage side with the spray gun doing what he was told? Or, were they applied by a supervisor to show the area below where no dark colors should be applied ? The colors are RLM 76 on the undersurfaces, a light gray primer similar to what the NASM found on their 262 on the flanks and vertical tail and RLM 81 & 82 on the upper surfaces.

The aircraft had a total life of around 2 months, it had only approximately 3 flying hours when it was delivered to KG76, where it only lasted a month before being written off. Given this information and photos that show a clean airframe weathering and wear was kept to a minimum.
Although an aircraft would probably never be seen with a bomb installed and an engine off I wanted to show a detailed empty rack and since this will probably be the only 262 bomber I will do I wished to show a mounted bomb.
