Italeri's 1/72 scale
Short Stirling Mk.IV
by Roland Sachsenhofer
Italeri's 1/72 scale Short Stirling Mk.IV is available online from Squadron.com
The long awaited and much appreciated new Italeri 1/72 scale kit of the famous Short Stirling Mk.IV is no disappointment. You can expect a great kit in many aspects!

Detail is convincing and fit of the parts is a pure delight - as are the decals. The only shortcoming is a somehow odd layout of the building process. For example you have to fix the front part of the wheel struts at the very beginning of the wings assembly - problematic, because these delicate parts are from then prone to break.

But except that oddity this is a dream of a kit. The only enhancement has been Eduard's interior and exterior etched parts sets; especially the pilot's seats are worth being built up from etched metal!
My Short Stirling shows a Mk. IV that was used on D-Day to bring paraglider into the landing zones in the night of 5th to 6th June 44. It was operated by 295 Squadron from RAF Holmsley, Hampshire.

After these pleasing experiences I am keen to build the bomber version of this mighty giant.
If you are interested in the building process and in the models parts, please have a look on the workbench at the JAM Forum.
