FirstLook

Brengun has released a simple detail set to enhance the two most readily available kits of the SG.38 training glider. Brengun’s label advises that the set is for the AZ Models or MPM kits, which is not strictly correct.

The two intended kits are in fact by Kovozavody Prostejov, which has the same owner as AZ Models, and Special Hobby, which is an MPM Production brand name. Just to add further confusion, MPM Production (which also has a kit brand called MPM) shall be renamed Special Hobby Limited on January 1st, 2016. Czech kit branding is often anything but straightforward!

Kovozavody Prostejov offers three twin-pack boxings with and without gondolas, and two different gondola styles:

KPM0026 - SG38 / SK-38 Gondola

KPM0027 - SG38 Gondola

KPM0028 - G-101/SG-1/SG-38/TX.I

Whilst Special Hobby offers two twin-pack options:

SH72269 - SG 38 Schulgleiter / SK-38 Komár  “Czechoslovak, Polish and DDR Service”

SH72319 - SG 38 Schulgleiter  “German and Slovak Service”

Now I have clarified the kits this set is intended to enhance normal review service will resume.

The set comes in a small cellophane bag stapled to a card header along with instructions and a black backing paper.

The instructions are in Czech and English with a clear drawings indicating parts fitment. The set focuses on cockpit detail, but also control surface actuators.

The PE parts are of good quality and improve on the kit parts they replace.

I have included Brengun’s own images of the parts added to a partially assembled example of what I am sure is the Special Hobby kit.

Conclusion

This simple set is an effective way of refining and adding detail any of the Kovozavody Prostejov or Special Hobby kits; I highly recommend it.

Thanks to Brengun for the review sample.
