This is a welcome set to compliment the relatively recent release of the Special Hobby kit of Mirage F.1B two-seater, reviewed by me here on HyperScale; although it will obviously suit the Heller twin-seat kit too (be aware Heller has also re-boxed the Airfix single-seat F.1C).

The Decals

The decals are supplied in Xtradecal’s usual polythene zip-lock bag. The instructions are very nicely produced in colour, and clearly indicate markings placement. A brief note regarding the aircraft and its station location is given for each subject.

A list of Xtracolor and Xtracrylix paint codes is also provided for the colours required, as well as FS595 codes for four of the schemes. A modeller’s note for the Libyan F.1BD mentions the need to scratch-build a fin-fillet, although the same need for the Iranian F.1BQ is not mentioned but is illustrated.
The specific subjects covered are:

  • F.1ED, 3-6407/10, Islamic Republic of Iran AF, Tehran, 2013;

  • F.1B, 502/30-SE, EC 1/30 Alsace, Armee de l'Air, Colmar-Meyeheim, France 1993;

  • F.1BD, 204, Libyan AF, 1990s;

  • F.1BE, CE.14-31/14-77, Ala de Caza 14, 142 Escuadron, Spanish AF, Los Llanos AB, Spain, 2003;

  • F.1BJ, 711, Royal Jordanian AF, Jordan 1990s;

  • F.1BK, 771, al-Quwwat al-Jawwiya al-Kuwaitiyn, Kuwait, 1992;

  • F.1JE,  FAE830, Ala de Combare 21, Escuadron de Caza 2112; Taura AB, Ecuador,  2007;

  • F.1BQ, 3-6406/10, Islamic Republic of Iran AF, Tehran 2016; and

  • F.1BE, CE 14-27/14-70, Ala de Caza 14, 141 Escuadron, Spanish AF, Los Llanos AB, Spain, 1988.

The decals appear superbly printed by Microscale Decals, with excellent colour density and registration. The sheet reviewed here covers nine options; some of which are quite colourful, and all interesting in my opinion.

These are superbly well produced decals. They provide some interesting markings for the two the available Mirage F.1B kits in The One True Scale, and ideally compliment the recent Special Hobby release. They also represent excellent value.

Highly Recommended.

Thanks to Hannants for this sample.
