Background

As the defence budget of the Russian Federation has increased exponentially over the last few years, increasing numbers of combat aircraft have undergone long overdue major overhauls and upgrades.

Russia's MiG-29 fleet is being overhauled at the 121 ARZ at Kubinka and 275 ARZ at Krasnodar.

Kubinka's overhauled MiGs sometimes add a little something 'extra' after being returned to their units in the form of unique artwork, courtesy of journalist, author, photographer, artist and man of many other talents, Anton Pavlov.

The decals are packed in the standard ziplock bag with a colour printed A5 booklet and two sheets of decals.
The booklet is packed with photos and colour profiles of the jets with notes about the markings, camo and operations.

There are decals for six aircraft 5x MiG-29 9-13 and a single MiG-29 UB. Of the single seaters Red '29' is finnished in all over grey and wears a banner commemorating 'Hero of Russia' General Sulambek Oskanov, who in '92 stayed with his failing aircraft ensuring it crashed clear of a built up area.

The remaining 4x MiG-29 9-13 aircraft are all finnished in the standard grey/green camo and 3x bare markings of after Russian Orthadox warrior saints while the fourth carrys a R-73 weilding bee motif.

The MiG-29 UB carries an instructing bird emblem and is the only aircraft in the set with the newer blue/grey camo.

The decals themselves are very thin and printed in perfect register. The colours are very dense and reflect the hues used on the aircraft themselves. For instance there are two different reds and two different blues used for the national markings.

Where there is small writing text on the banners there is a a second text decal included to overlay on the text of the banner. The same applies for the zap markings. On the 'R-73 Bee' the 5 colour marking is split across 2 decals. Care will be required here to maintain alignment between the two layers.

Kits suitable for these decals are the Great Wall Hobbies MiG-29 9-13 and the Academy MiG-29 UB.

Conclusion

A well produced set ofdecals to create a model displaying the interesting markings applied to a group of the most recently upgraded MiG-29s.
