Description

This was a challenge kit given to me by a good friend to be returned the next year at the Model Expo at Melbourne.

It was the old venerable Tamiya kit from 1983, with a mix of recessed and raised detail, which was quite randomly distributed across the model. The model was re-scribed totally as well as riveted.

Despite the age of the kit, it went together superbly. Apart from Eduard etch seatbelts it’s OOB. I decided to do Tanimizu’s Zero after getting a photo of him and the aircraft showing a great degree of weathering.

This was my first go at using AK Interactive products, including chipping effects, washes, oil effects etc, as well as salt weathering and multi-layered paint and filtering to a high level. In fact the wings near the cockpit ended up with 14 various layers to create the effect achieved, which I may say, I’m pleased with.

All in all, a great learning palette for hammering a Japanese Zero.
