After seeing the quality of the F-15 exhaust nozzles I just had to check out the F-14 set.  This time I am reporting on the Opened Exhaust Nozzle and Afterburner set.  And like the F-15 nozzles this, set does not disappoint.

Packaged in a card stock top opening box with a cardboard insert are three ziplock baggies protecting the resin pieces.  This ensures that they are safe until you need them.  The resin pieces themselves are printed, not cast, in black resin.  You get two afterburner cans, two flame dispensers, and two exhaust nozzles, in my case they are opened.

The detail on the resin parts is impressive and impeccably captured in 3D CAD.  Because it is printed CAD there are no large pour blocks that you would associate with cast parts.  This makes removal very easy from the support sheet.  I don’t want to call it a stub it is just a wafer thin piece that holds the parts together.  Removal is simple enough with a new blade and/or a good set of nippers.  Be careful when removing the afterburner halves as there are locator tabs to help everything line up.  The flame ring is the toughest part to remove, but check out the photos included in the review to see what needs to be removed.  If there is a downside it is just that there are no instructions.  The website has photos of the parts assembled.

This is really a great new company.  The detail is impressive and beautifully rendered in 3D CAD.  The print is flawless and the parts are suitably thin.  I can’t imagine not wanting this set.  I liked this set so much I’ll be ordering another set with the exhausts closed and some more F-15 stuff as well.  Hopefully they will do some F-14D and F-16 stuff.  Amazing stuff.  Just perfect.

Thanks to KA Models for the sample.
