Bristol Blenheim Mk.IV Serial L8784,  No. 254 Sqn. Spring 1940

This aircraft belonged to 254 Sqn. and where detached to RAF Lossiemouth in the spring of 1940 for operations over the Norwegian coast.

The model is based on the Classic Airframes Bristol Blenheim Mk.IV/IV F kit in scale 1:48.

This is a limited run kit with most of the cockpit parts, engines and wheel wells made of resin.

The details are very good and overall the finished kit looks right. One of the major challenges is the clear plastic parts. The cockpit is split in two big clear plastic parts with the glue joint following the canopy framing. It is hard to get this looking acceptable and this takes a lot of work. It is also difficult to get all the nice resin parts fitting into the cockpit but in the end you will be rewarded with a very nice interior which is very visible through all of the glassing.

The next major challenge is the wheel wells. It is very difficult to get these to fit into the wings, there is just not enough space for them. I had to thin the plastic so much in this area that it was possible to look trough the plastic. But when this is done they look excellent.

Both engines are made out of resin and they are very nice. You will have a hard time getting them into the cowlings but when that is done they look great.

Overall you have to spend a lot of time related to fitting of parts, a lot of dry fitting is required.

Nothing for the “speed” builder but with a lot of patient this kit builds into a very nice representation of the great looking Blenheim Mk.IV.

Overall a very enjoyable build, I hope you like the result.
