The Daimler-Benz DB 605 is a German aircraft engine, built during World War II. Developed from the DB 601, the DB 605 was used from 1942 to 1945 in the Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter, and the Bf 110 and Me 210C heavy fighters. The DB 610, a coupled "power system" powerplant comprising a pair of side-by-side configured examples of the DB 605, geared together in the front to turn a single output shaft — and which, like the similar DB 606 that it replaced, weighed 1,515 kg — was used in the A-3 and all A-5 variants of Germany's only operational heavy bomber, the Heinkel He 177A.

The U4 version incorporated the engine mounted 30mm cannon.

License-built versions of the DB 605 were used in the Macchi C.205, Fiat G.55, Reggiane 2005 and some other Italian aircraft. It was also initially used in the pusher-design Swedish Saab J21. Approximately 42,400 DB 605s of all kinds were built.

The Eduard Brassin Bf-109G-6/U4 engine set consists of 63 finely detail resin parts and a photo-etch sheet of some 45 parts.

Included is an instruction sheet of nine pages involving 36 construction stages that certainly indicates this is no simple build. This is a detailed and intricate kit in its own right with a total parts count more than many single engined 1/48 aircraft kits, and that’s packed into a quite small area. This set also includes the machine guns and mounting block details.

Having built a Brassin engine, Merlin not DB 605 though, I can truly appreciate the level of detail that Brassin has put into them. I also have come to know the value of taking your time to work carefully when constructing them. Cut carefully, clean up parts thoroughly, although clean-up is truly only for the casting blocks which are normally located where there are flat mating surfaces which really helps us the modellers.

With that out of the way, the next task is the painting that will need to be carried out on some sections. Again, take your time to gain a great result. Paint call outs are for Gunze Aqueous and Mr Color paints.

The etch parts provide many of the wiring loom sections as well as fine metal arms etc on the engine and gun mount.

Another thing that really impresses me is the engine cowl covers that are so finely cast to be in excellent scale thickness and the wealth of detail on both the interior and exterior surfaces…..but be warned they are ultra-thin and need careful handling in clean-up. Bravo Eduard!

This is an amazingly detailed engine set of the DB605 for the Bf 109G-6. I would highly recommend this set for experienced modellers who really want to take the detail level of the Tamiya Bf 109G-6 to new heights. All I need to do now is find a cheap Bf 109G-6 to give it a home.
