Detailed and comprehensive look at the German Kokker E.v/D.VIII in Polish service. Great B&W photos, colour profiles and clear English text.

A wonderful reference guide for the modeller of Polish WWI aircraft or those of the historical interest.

This new book in the popular Polish Wings series tells of the story the the famous German parasol-winged WWI fighter monoplane, the Fokker E.V/D.VIII in the Polish service. The Polish Air Force captured 17 of these Fokkers, but only seven, six E.V and one D.VIII, were in airworthy condition. All were used against Bolshevik forces in the Polish-Soviet War or 1919-1920. Lieutenant Stefan Stec earned the first kill for the Polish Air Force, by shooting down a Ukrainian Nieuport fighter on 29 April 1919. In 1921, the remaining Fokkers were withdrawn from front-line units and transferred to the Szko?a Obs?ugi Lotniczej (Air Personnel School) at Pozna?-?awica airfield.

This book includes over 120 photographs and nearly 30 colour plates beautifully put together by Janusz ?wiat?o?, to profusely illustrate these aircraft. Their technical details, military markings and maintenance stencils are shown in detail.

The text is completely in English, and despite the depth of information and detail covered, is easy reading. What I really like is that there are coloured profiles of the aircraft along with images of the real aircraft on one page. For a modeller, nothing beats this approach to presenting references. I also think that the diorama builders would really like this book as the number of interesting photographs of these aircraft in all sorts of positions, many of them not involving wheels touching the ground, will give you plenty of ideas for your work. The other small but important touch I like is, having built a couple of lozenge covered Fokker D.VII’s, having coloured photographs of the real lozenge is good and I really could have used these previously.

This book has been produced for the modeller or aviation enthusiast of very early Polish Air Force aircraft, providing an absolute wealth of reference photographs and detail to help, especially the modellers, in the creation of true to life aircraft or dioramas. This book is well recommended.
