Red Roo Models has released a new decal sheet for the 1/48 scale Classic Airframes and re-boxed Special Hobby Avro Anson kits.

This decal sheet covers three nicely varied RAAF WWII schemes and includes national markings, serials and codes applied applied to 71 Squadron and 1 Air Observer's School RAAF in the mid-WWII period.

 

 

Specifically, these three subjects are

  • Anson Mk.I, AW665, PP-B, 71 Sqn RAAF, Lowood (Qld) October 1943. This is finished in an interesting camouflage trial scheme of RAAF Foliage Green and Earth Brown upper surfaces with Matt White on the fuselage sides (high demarcation) and Gloss White on the lower surfaces.

  • Anson Mk.I, DJ287, PP-K, 71 Sqn RAAF mid-war. This is finished in RAF Dark Green and Dark Earth upper surfaces with Sky below. The aricraft features large Sky Blue codes.

  • Anson Mk.I, W2598, 1 Air Observer's School at Evans Head (NSW), 17 Feb 1943. This is also finished in RAF Dark Green and Dark Earth upper surfaces with Sky below. The last three digits of the serial are repeated in large yellow digits on the fuselage sides.

 

 

The instructions are as comprehensive as you would expect from Red Roo, with a historical summary, reference photos, close-up detail shots of an example under restoration, colour notes and four-view profiles for the three aircraft subjects.

 

 

The "Digital Silk" decal sheet has carrier film over the entire sheet so you will have to carefully cut around each individual decal. The instructions note that the film is very thin and the decals should be handled gently.

 

 

I tested out a sample decal (the Red Roo logo - that's why it is missing from the bottom corner of the photo!). It was easy to apply and appears to be quite opaque.

 

 

Conclusion

 

This is another high-quality decal package from Red Roo Models, ideal for the Classic Airframes and Special Hobby kit.

The set is also available in 1/72 scale.
