Here is my first completed model for 2020 - Eduard's 1/48 scale Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-8/R2.
All of Eduard’s new generation 1/48 scale Wurgers are great kits and a joy to build and this one is no exception.
I used the kit cockpit, which includes colour photo-etched parts for the instrument panel, side consoles, harness straps and other details.
This is one of my favourite Luftwaffe schemes. I have had EagleCals Item No. EC#8 Sturmjager Part 2 for more than 20 years (it was released in 1998), and I finally decided to take the plunge.
The black fuselage markings were masked, using the yellow outline decals as a template.
After two decades the decals were a little bit brittle but colour saturation was excellent and there was no sign of yellowing at all. In the end all the decals settled down perfectly, even the tricky yellow spinner spiral. I applied a coat of Solvaset after the decals had been applied.
I converted an Eduard BRASSIN WGr.21 rocket from the wing-mounted set no. 648483 to a centreline mounted WGr.2 using plastic scrap and rod.
EagleCals’ instructions mention that Yellow 3 was fitted with the wide wooden VDM 9 propeller. Eduard includes this on the sprue (marked “not for use”), so I was able to use this.
Noy's Miniatures 1/48 Luftwaffe Hangar Interior
You might have seen the Preview a few weeks ago of Noy's Miniatures 2-in-1 WWII Luftwaffe Hangar (Inside) Set. This is a set of 6 prints depicting the inside of a typical WWII Luftwaffe hangar. The prints are on card stock.
I glued these prints to black foam board that I had cut to size, and temporarily taped them together for a photo session with my newly finished Eduard Fw 190 A-8/R2.
Lots of fun photo opportunities!
You can order the Luftwaffe Hangar Interior by emailing Noy on email@example.com
I just love this new generation of Eduard 1/48 scale kits. I'll be writing this one up, including the hangar interior, in a big article for Issue 107 of Military Illustrated Modeller magazine.
Thanks to Eduard for the sample.
