Everest Model is a brand new company from China that has just launched its initial range of resin conversions and decal sets.
Their second release is a 1/72 scale Swept Back Gull Wing Conversion for the Special Hobby Heinkel He 162 (kit no. 72341). This was a paper project that was never actually built, but it will appeal to Luftwaffe '46 fans.
In fact, the title of the conversion sells itself a bit short. In addition to the sept back and kinked wings, we are also presented with a replacement HeS011A engine nacelle and a new V-tail.
The set comprises ten parts in pale cream coloured resin, decals for four marking options and full colour instructions on a folded A4 page.
The parts are packed in a sturdy cardboard box.
Quality of the resin looks very good indeed. We are presented with two halves of the new engine nacelle for the Henschel jet engine, an engine fan, jet exhaust cone, two upper fuselage inserts, two separate forward swept wings, two V-tail sections and a tail cone.
The instructions indicate quite clearly where the kit fuselage halves have to be cut. This is a substantial chunk of fuselage but the cut is along natural panel lines. Raised surface features at the trailing wing root will need to be sanded flat too.
The decals appear to be very good quality. Colour saturation and registration are perfect on my sample. There is no indication of who has printed these but they have done a nice job.
Four marking options are suggested - four Luftwaffe and one French war prize. Of course, being a paper project you are free to paint your model in whatever scheme you fancy.
Everest Model's 1/72 scale He 162 Swept Back Gull Wing Conversion is an interesting, high quality option for Luftwaffe '46 fans.
Thanks to Everest Models for the sample.
