Hispano HA-1112 K.1L
Tripala/Buchon Spanish Air Force Wing Cannon and Rocket Set

S.B.S. Model, 1/48 scale

by Floyd S. Werner Jr.

Description

The SBS photo etch parts are suitably thin so I did not anneal them with a flame beforehand.

What I did was use The Small Shop Bending and Rolling Deluxe Brass Assist and started in the center to make sure the hole was on the leading edge.  Pay attention to which side they go.  Once they were formed to the leading edge, I just adjusted the rest of the part into place.  I secured them with a new, to me, superglue, VMS Flexy 5K CA.  This stuff is like gold.  It isn’t cheap but it is very good and has shear strength that other CA does not.  It also doesn’t set up immediately, so you have some working time.  New love.  Once the leading-edge panel was down I simply laid the subsequent panels up against it.  If done properly the PE panels will align perfectly.  Take your time here.  It is worth the extra work.

I then drilled out a hole in the leading edge that is already on the PE.  I inserted some tubing temporarily then formed the other part of the stiffeners.  Then I just added it.  Pay attention to the instructions and the bolt pattern to determine the right side up.  Once secured the tube was cut down.  A hole was drilled into the gun tube extension and added to the wing.  Again, pay attention to the orientation.  I didn’t.  My resin gun parts are actually upside down.  The flatter fairing should be on the bottom and the rounded portion on top.  Oops.  That VMS superglue was so good I couldn’t pull it off so upside down they will stay.  Truthfully if I didn’t tell you would anyone notice?

Then it was time to add the mounts for the rocket rails take your time.  I first used the back which sits right next to a panel line.  Make sure the rear ones are in a straight line.  Then I used some proportional dividers and measured the rocket rail mounts and set the front.  Make sure they are straight and evenly spaced left to right or your rockets won’t be boresighted.  Once you are sure then set them all in place with superglue.

The set completely changes the look of your Tripala or Buchon.  These SBS sets are very nice and can be used on the SBS converted Tamiya kit, either your Buchon or Tripala, or your Hobbyboss Ha.1112 Buchon.
