Description

Here is my fourth build of a new generation Eduard Wurger - this time the recently released 1/48 scale Focke-Wulf Fw 190 F-8.

I used the Eduard SPACE 3D printed instrument panel and side consoles (Item No. 3DL48017), and Barracuda Studios’ Fw 190 Fw 190 A, F, D Snapshot Cockpit Upgrade (Item No. BR48433). The Barracuda set includes a resin seat with the harness straps cast in place and other cockpit details.

These are both worthwhile additions.

The only other non-kit parts were a piece of thin stretched sprue for the sagging antenna wire and a Tamiya staple from one of their plastic bags. This was bent into a circle for the DF loop.

I have always been intrigued by the improvised and battle weary finishes typical of these late-war Jabos. They also often wore colourful yellow markings - fuselage bands, wing chevrons and rudder - indicating their service on the Southern Front.

I particularly liked the look of one of the Eduard kit marking options, Chevron Green 5. This one was probably originally finished in a standard factory finish of RLM 74/75/76, but it seems to have been overpainted in a non-standard grey pattern on the upper wings and with a very dark and solid overspray on the fuselage. Eduard suggests this is RLM 70 Black Green, which is entirely plausible, but it might have been a fresh coat of one of the late-war colours such as RLM 83 too. I spent more time than usual on the intricate overpainted scheme.

Kit decals were used for the main markings and a small number of stencils and wing walk lines.

If you haven’t built one of Eduard’s recent 1/48 scale Fw 190s, do yourself a favour and grab one. They are great kits.
