FirstLook

Designed for the Special Hobby or Eduard Bf 109 E-1 to E-7 kits, this detailed resin set comprises a DB601 engine, guns and cowling covers.

The parts are in a zip-lock bag inside a strong end-opening box with illustrations of the parts on the top. Instructions occupy both sides of an A4 sheet folded into an A5 format. These show the construction steps with clear drawings and instructions as to which kit parts are replaced or modified.

No painting details are provided, which is a bit of a pity.

All the parts are here to build a standard DB601 to fit the E series of Bf109s with an extra piece for the E-7 tropical variant. They replace the already nice engine parts in the kits but are so much more detailed and sharply cast.

The castings are just splendid with crisp detail and thin webs to be separated from the casting blocks. Minimal clean up will be required.

The exhausts and engine mounts as well as the engine body are works of art and will look fabulous with careful painting.

A bonus are the two machine-gun barrels with hollow and shaped ends that will add even more to the finished product.

While designed for the SH and Eduard kits, I can’t see there being much of a problem fitting these parts to any model Bf 109 E, it just may require a bit more cutting and chopping, or one can just use the kit parts replaced by these resin details!

Conclusion

This is a great little accessory to enhance an model of the Bf109 and I see these appearing in a number of vignettes and dioramas over the coming years.

Highly Recommended.

Thanks to Special Hobby for the sample.
