Biullseye Model Aviation has released a new decal set, Fleet Phantoms I, covering the McDonnell Douglas F-4B Phantom II.

The decals are designed for the gorgeous new 1/48 scale Tamiya kit.

The set includes five varied marking options for Rhinos in WestPac, Mediterranean and home waters service.

The subjects on this new release were adorned with a colourful selection of tail and fuselage markings. These will result in some very unique Phantoms on your display shelves.

The five F-4B Phantoms covered are:

  • "Switchbox 200" VF-151s CAG jet from the 1971-1972 WestPac cruise, USS Midway

  • "Lance 100" VF-21s CAG jet, 1967-1968 WestPac cruise, USS Ranger

  • "Gypsy 200" VF-32 CAG jet, 1966-1967 WestPac cruise, USS Franklin Roosevelt

  • "Ripper 101" VF-11 CO jet, 1968-1969 Med cruise, USS Forrestal.

  • "Devill 100" VF-301 CAG jet, NAS Miramar, 1975

All of the aircraft are finished in the standard US Navy scheme of the era, Light Gull Grey and White with a choice of black and white nose cones.

All aircraft are configured with AN/APR-30 antennae (per the fin tip of the Tamiya kit) except for Gypsy 200, which has AN-APR-24 C/S/X Band RHAW System. Flying Leathernecks already offers a simple conversion (also available from Sprue Brothers).

Decals are beautifully printed by Catrograf.

Two of the decal sheets are 12" x 8.5".

The second decal sheet containing stencils, walkway markings in black, medium grey and Light Gull Grey, and national markings. It would appear that sufficient stencil, walkway and national markings are supplied for two complete models plus plenty of leftovers.

A smaller errata decal sheet with the Midway CAG tail markings is also included (the corrected tail is shown in the main decal and marking diagrams above).

Instructions are supplied on two double-sided letter-sized sheets. They are as well researched and thorough as you would expect from Bullseye.

Port side views and scrap view wing illustrations for each of the five subjects are included.

Also supplied is a useful guide dedicated to several typical fighter and ground attack weapons configuration.

A stencil placement guide in included too.

The instructions are rounded out with acknowledgements.
